This year, the festival revolves around the theme “Back to the Neighborhood,” celebrating stories born from the streets, communities, and lived experiences that form the heart of Latin identity.With the generous support of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) as our lead sponsor, and hosted at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies Library (CENTRO), LFM 2025 positions itself as a cornerstone for independent film and Latinx audiovisual culture in New York.With a program focused on film and video, the event will feature the screening of over 35 short films, feature films, music videos, and web series, along with live music performances, Q&amp;A sessions with creators, and spaces for professional development and networking.🎟️ Friday, June 13 (evening) – 🎧 Conversation on the history of Puerto Rican cinema and a working session on Latin passes in the international circuit. A dynamic space for dialogue and collaboration among artists, filmmakers, and audiences. Directors/Directores: Judith Escalona is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and gallerist. Her last film BX3M garnered awards in domestic and international film festivals, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. The coming-of-age story of three Latinx teens growing up in the Bronx, BX3M screened at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., the Newark Latino Film Festival, and film festivals in Milan, Berlin, and Warsaw. Her short documentary Arturo Schomburg: Father of Black History screened at the Newark Museum of Art and at the Mott Haven Film Festival. Previously, Escalona wrote and directed The Krutch, a surreal film about a Puerto Rican psychoanalyst with an identity problem, starring Jaime Sánchez (Pawnbroker, The Wild Bunch). The Krutch and BX3M are featured in a scholarly work titled Revolving Door Life Writing: Literature and Cinema of Puerto Rican Women by Christin Freyer.Escalona was a correspondent and segment producer for CUNY-TV. She has received several awards and acknowledgments, including three Communicator Awards, and an IPPY for Best Video. Escalona covers important topics that impact the women in the latino community. Judith is also the founder of PRdream.com, the 25-year-old, award-winning website on the history, culture, and politics of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican Diaspora. PRdream.com was the first Latino/Latin American website on the internet. She is the founder and chief curator of MediaNoche, a technology-based art gallery (<a href="http://medianoche.us/" title="http://medianoche.us/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">medianoche.us</a>) is the place where art, technology and community converge. They offer artists working in new media exhibition space and residencies in order to provoke a dialogue that blurs all lines of marginality and alterity. Unique among art and technology groups, MediaNoche is directly linked to the oldest Latino community of New York City, Spanish Harlem, and has showcased a roster of local and international new media artists; now on hiatus, and was invited to present a paper on the gallery at the Asian Women's Research Institute Conference in Seoul, South Korea in November 2020. Judith Escalona collaborated with organizations like: El Museo del Barrio, Centro de Puerto Rico among others to support and guide the local artists.Maria Palacio is a Brooklyn based film producer, creative, teacher &amp; photographer. Inspired through her own experience as an up-and-coming filmmaker she established Revolution Me Film Festival in 2016 to create a forum to nurture other emerging artists in the field.She has produced over 12 films heavily focused on women and diverse stories. Maria’s latest film, Unlocked premiered at the Chelsea film festival in 2023 in NYC. It was screened at the 2024 People’s Film Festival in Harlem NY and at the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival in 2024.Maria is currently a teacher at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus. She is also in pre-production of her 5th directed film and is still working on her first directed/co-produced documentary, The Fighter in Us. Her documentary series is one of 89 recipients of the 2022 NYC women’s fund.Chase Torres is a screenwriter and audiovisual content creator committed to telling authentic stories that emerge from the heart of urban Latinx communities. Born and raised in New York to a Puerto Rican family, Chase has focused his career on highlighting the social and emotional complexities of Latinx youth through powerful narratives and realistic characters.He is currently leading the development of the drama series Dyckman, a project that explores the lives of three Dominican siblings facing violence, addiction, and poverty in their community. With a focus on resilience, art, and family, Dyckmanpromises to become a powerful and impactful series within the Latinx television landscape.Chase stands out for his ability to build complex narrative worlds with a strong sense of cultural identity and social commitment. With Dyckman, he reaffirms his mission to create space for Latinx voices to be heard and valued in the entertainment industry.Judith Escalona es una cineasta galardonada, escritora y curadora.
