MLK Day of Service - Invasive Removal on the Mount Vernon Trail

The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail works to maintain and improve the Mount Vernon Trail and promote its safe use.

Join us to remove invasive English Ivy around the Mount Vernon Trail. English Ivy kills mature trees. 

615 Slaters Ln

Volunteers will remove English Ivy from trees along the Mount Vernon Trail. English Ivy is an invasive species that kills trees by smothering leaves, creating rot and weighing down branches. This also increases the risk that a tree will fall on a trail user.Volunteers are needed to assist with cutting, pulling, bagging and removing vines. No special skills are needed. We'll teach you how to help in just a few minutes. What to Bring: <ol><li>Hand Pruners (We will have several to borrow)</li><li>Work Gloves (We will hav eseveral to borrow)</li><li>Water to drink</li><li>A face covering</li></ol>Getting there: We'll meet in the courtyard behind the Salvation Army Headquarters and then walk to the work area.
