Imagination Sessions: Volume 2

Contemporaneousis an ensemble of 25 musicians whose mission is to bring to life the most transformative music by living composers through performances, commissions, recordings, and educational programs. Described as"exact and detailed, but also lively and openly dancing"(The New York Times) and"leading new music towards its better self"(I Care If You Listen), Contemporaneous particularly champions the creation of large-scale works and “dream projects,” which composers might not otherwise have opportunities to realize due to scale.

Imagination Sessions is a new online community initiative from Contemporaneous. Presented over Zoom in a participatory community format and moderated by Contemporaneous, every Imagination Session brings on incredible guests from disparate walks of life that foreground, in one way or another, the imagination of the future — from composers to theater directors to politicians. Taking place on the first Friday of every month, each Imagination Session is unique and features a different topic and group of presenters. Every session offers you the chance to be a part of the conversation, ask questions, or just listen and be part of the community. Through this series of discussions, presentations, and performances, the Imagination Sessions build a vast and diverse fabric of perspectives towards a grand exploration of imagination and creative life in the world of today and tomorrow.Picking up our grand conversation with the first Imagination Session of 2021, Session Two will host a community symposium in which we explore the different ways people approach imagining the world to come. In a time when collective action has been so prominent in the choices we as individuals make every day, we&#x27;ve all come face to face as well with questions of collective imagination — what do we want the world to be like if we could do anything? And from there, how do we bring that world to fruition? These questions of imagination are approached by each of us differently, and both artists and politicians go to work seeking to answer them in some way.SESSION TWO will feature amazing special guests from different paths of imaginative work, from filmmaker <a href="https://www.breathlessfilm.com/anaiis" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Anaiis Cisco</a> to stage director <a href="https://www.alisonmoritz.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Alison Moritz</a> and members of <a href="https://www.newkingsdemocrats.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New Kings Democrats</a>, a Brooklyn-based grassroots political organization — all in conversation with you. Hosted by the co-artistic directors of Contemporaneous, we’ll examine the disparate and intersecting ways imagination factors into the lives of each guest as they look out at the future they expect and the future they hope to inhabit. Come to listen or come to share in the dialogue at IMAGINATION SESSIONS: TWO.Join Contemporaneous for this Imagination Session and take part in this life-affirming conversation and gathering space as we look together towards the imagination of the future.
