Loon Research Tour - National Loon Center
Join us on our Loon Pontoon, "The StewardShip" to survey loon territories across the Whitefish Chain!
Join the National Loon Center aboard our pontoon, “The StewardShip,” for a special research program, where we'll document loon territories and sightings across the Whitefish Chain!
From June through mid-August, we'll survey a different lake of the chain each week, documenting nesting success, chick hatching, band resights, and loon behavior.
At the end of August through September, the research tours will primarily visit Lower and Upper Whitefish Lakes to search for and observe groups of loons rafting up before the fall migration.
These 3 hour tours are offered every other week on Wednesdays from 8:30-11:30am. After the tour, stop by our visitor center, The Nest, to view exhibits, learn about our new facility, and shop some loony merchandise!
To learn more about national research programs studying loons and their habitats, please visit: www.nationallooncenter.org/research
Because of the longer duration of this program, the minimum recommended age for participants is 14 years old. But if you know a budding young biologist who would enjoy the full program, they are certainly welcome to join!
