Conversations: Ilana Savdie with Jasmine Wahi and Ariana Reines at White Cube New York

On the occasion of Frieze New York, join Ilana Savdie, Jasmine Wahi, and Ariana Reines at White Cube New York as they discuss and reflect on Savdie’s new solo exhibition, ‘Glottal Stop’, which runs until 14 June 2025.

Savdie's work draws on a range of subjects as source material, creating intricately detailed, vibrant paintings in acrylic, oil and beeswax that meditate on corporeal and metaphysical excess. This exhibition unveils new paintings at White Cube New York, following her solo exhibition, ‘Radical Contractions’, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, which ran from 14 July to 5 November 2023.

About the speakers:

Jasmine Wahi is the founder and co-director of Project for Empty Space, a nonprofit organisation in New York City and Newark, New Jersey. Her work primarily focuses on issues of femme empowerment, complicating binary structures within social discourses, and exploring multi-positional cultural identities through the lens of intersectional feminism.

Named a ‘crucial voice of her generation’ by KCRW’s Michael Silverblatt, Ariana Reines is an award-winning poet, Obie-winning playwright, performer and translator. Her recent books include The Rose (2025) and Wave of Blood (UK, 2024). Other works include A Sand Book (2020 Kingsley Tufts Prize), The Cow (2006 Alberta Prize), Coeur De Lion, Mercury, and The Origin of the World. Her 2009 play, Telephone, was the recipient of two Obie Awards. She has created performances for The Guggenheim Museum, Stuart Shave Modern Art, Swiss Institute, Performance Space New York, and many others, and since 2020 has led Invisible College, a hub for the study of poetry and sacred texts.
