The shift to remote online instruction has made the need for accessible and inclusive course design more obvious than ever before. In some cases, online classes offer new opportunities for accessible participation and collaboration. However, remote instruction also comes with challenges for instructors and students alike, and some students may face new and additional barriers to full access and participation. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that provides flexibility in the way information is presented, in the way students respond or demonstrate knowledge and skills, and in the way students are engaged. In order to reach all students in the time of COVID-19, we will share how UDL can be applied to remote instruction, discuss some best practices, and provide resources to help you integrate UDL into your courses. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion, so bring those activities you've been worried about, or questions about how to make a particular technology accessible to all students.
