MIT Cocktails 101

The celebrated Cocktails & Spirits Seminar for MIT IAP is back, this time virtually!

Ready to go beyond gin-tonic and vodka-soda? Curious why some drinks are stirred and not shaken? Why do those mixologists have to have suspenders and handlebar moustaches, anyways? Get some expert experience this IAP learning about fine spirits, classic cocktails and how to make them in a craft environment. You’ll taste, shake, stir, and strain your way through over 150 years of cocktail history, from the earliest definitions of a cocktail to modern drinks grounded in classic technique. You&#x27;ll leave the course armed with all the knowledge you need to make delicious &amp; beautiful drinks at home.Cocktails 101 will meet virtually this year over Zoom from the home bars of Jared Sadoian &#x27;10, General Manager of <a href="http://www.craigieonmain.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Craigie on Main</a>, and Rob Ficks, Bar Manager of <a href="http://www.pammyscambridge.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pammy&#x27;s</a>.No experience is necessary, though just a splash of prerequisite reading will be sent out prior to the start of the course. A recommended but optional &quot;shopping list&quot; will be sent out a week ahead of each session so you can stock your home bar, cook syrups, and get ready for the next round of drinkmaking!This seminar series will meet on four separate one-hour sessions:<ul><li>Monday, January 11th, 7:00 p.m. EST</li><li>Monday, January 18th, 7:00 p.m. EST</li><li>Monday, January 25th, 7:00 p.m. EST</li><li>Monday, February 1st, 7:00 p.m. EST</li></ul>Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions as material from one session will be built upon in subsequent sessions. No partial discounts or refunds for missed meetings will be offered, though notes from prior sessions will be published to participants at a later date. Prerequisites:<ul><li>Registration and payment is required for attendance.</li><li>Participants must be age 21 or older by the start date of the class (1/11/21)</li><li>A valid US State-issued ID or Government-issued Passport that shows your photograph and date of birth is required for attendance.</li></ul>Cost**:<ul><li>$85.00 for access to all four sessions of the virtual seminar series and detailed course notes (please note that cocktail ingredients / alcohol is NOT included)</li><li>$40.00 for a full set of a bar tools to use at home (optional)</li><li>$40.00 for a tasting kit to aid in our discussion of spirits categories and examples within each (optional)</li></ul>** Refunds for cancellations will be granted up until Monday, January 4th at noon.
