Mark-making from Nature

Unbound Visual Arts (UVA) is a unique Allston-Brighton based non-profit art organization, serving the Greater Boston community with programs and exhibits to encourage learning, engagement, and change. Since our founding in 2012, we’ve focused on presenting contemporary art that critically engages with our present moment – believing that art has the potential to interrogate social norms, redefine perspectives, and transmit new ideas. Our exhibitions are characterized by their engagement with crucial cultural and social topics, including environmental sustainability, health and wellness, and the structures of gender and race.

Using Quealy's Botanical Shakespeare and Hildegard's Healing Plants, participants will draw, discuss, and share interpretations of nature.

Join us at the Overlook Gallery for a mark-making event led by artists Anne Barnes and Caroline Sirois! Working with images from Botanical Shakespeare by Gerit Quealy and illustrated by Sumie Hasegawa Collins; Hildegard’s Healing Plants; and assemblages of live and dried plants; participants will draw, discuss and share interpretations of nature. Supplies provided! --This program is part of rooted in ruins, an artist residency project by Caroline Sirois coordinated by Unbound Visual Arts and held at the Overlook Gallery. This residency is made possible through funding from the Harvard-Allston Partnership Grant and Boston College.-- UVA’s Overlook Gallery is located at 175 Washington St., Brighton, MA 02135 – inside of the large historically preserved church. The gallery is on the lower level of the building. There is an accessible ramp in the rear of the building and an elevator inside.
