Founded in 1968, it is based in the Old Town Hall in Venice, California, near the Pacific Ocean. Join Tom Laichas in celebrating the publication of Empire of Eden, a work poet and translator Peter Levitt has praised as “subtle, insightful, profound and fearless.” He will also read selections from his forthcoming chapbook Sixty-Three Photographs from the End of a War and from current projects. <h3>About the author: </h3>An L.A. native, Tom earned his Ph.D. in History at UCLA and taught for over thirty years at Crossroads School, at Long Beach State, and most recently at Libros Schmibros, the Boyle Heights cultural center and lending library. Four years ago, Tom left full-time teaching to write. Since then, his poems have appeared widely in both the U.S. and in Britain. His first collection, Empire of Eden, is available from The High Window Press in the U.K., and he has a chapbook, Sixty-Three Photographs at the End of a War, forthcoming this month from 3.1 Press here in Venice. He is now at work on a second collection, Three Hundred Streets of Venice California. Tom and his wife Donna live in Venice.
