Citizenship for All: Storytelling Through Nonggi

Jane Addams Hull-House Museum(JAHHM)draws upon the legacy of international peace activist and feminist, Jane Addams, and other social reformers who worked, alongside their immigrant neighbors, to create social change on the Near West Side of Chicago during the Progressive Era. The Museum preserves and develops the original Hull-House site for the interpretation and continuation of the historic settlement house vision. Exhibitions and public programs elevate histories of activism, progressive education and democratic principles of participation and exchange, and connect them to present-day social justice issues.

Join Hull-House for a workshop in celebration of Chicago's multi-ethnic and multi-generational immigrant legacies.

Join Hull-House for a celebration of Chicago's multi-ethnic and multi-generational immigrant legacies. Artist <a href="https://www.aramhansifuentes.com/" title="https://www.aramhansifuentes.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Aram Han Sifuentes</a>, in partnership with <a href="https://hanacenter.org/" title="https://hanacenter.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">HANA Center</a>, brings traditional Korean folk banner-making to Hull-House through a workshop series and community gathering. In conjunction with Hull-House’s current exhibition Radical Craft: Arts Education at Hull-House, 1889-1935, this series celebrates over one hundred and thirty years of craft, immigrant narratives, and the fight for racial justice.

The workshop series takes place Thursday, May 15th and Thursday, May 22nd from 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Hull-House Museum (800 S. Halsted). The workshops are free and open to all skill levels.

Nonggi created in the workshops will be archived at HANA Center. The banners are a resource for the center and are used for celebrations, marches, street protests, and visits with legislators and representatives.
