This workshop, led by Thomas Harris, provides a space for guests to share stories about the queer ancestors who have shaped their lives.

1pm | $20 Suggested Donation This workshop, led by <a href="https://afamstudies.yale.edu/people/thomas-allen-harris" title="https://afamstudies.yale.edu/people/thomas-allen-harris" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Thomas Allen Harris</a>, provides a unique space for attendees to share stories about the queer ancestors—mentors, friends, family members, and/or lovers—who have shaped their lives. Drawing inspiration from Harris’ interest in the archive’s ability to excavate and activate memories, this workshop aims to steward and safekeep queer histories that are currently under attack and may not have institutional support. We will use Harris’ unique community photo-sharing methodology, which is derived from and will expand on his work in his nonprofit, <a href="https://familypicturesinstitute.org/about-2/" title="https://familypicturesinstitute.org/about-2/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Family Pictures Institute for Inclusive Storytelling</a>, and his PBS show, <a href="https://www.pbs.org/show/family-pictures-usa/" title="https://www.pbs.org/show/family-pictures-usa/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Family Pictures USA</a>. Attendees will surface Provincetown’s queer presence and create a queer ecology that spans space, time, and difference while gaining valuable insight into the role that the family photograph and storytelling have in producing collective understandings of our shared experiences. This is an informal, inclusive, and supportive workshop that does not expect participants to have fully polished stories or storytelling skills. We ask participants to bring personal photographs that help contextualize their stories. A videographer will record the session.
