Join the NWHM on December 13th at 3:00pm for a free virtual tour of the NWHM's newest exhibit, "Latinas in the Fight for Women's Suffrage".

<p>Join the National Women’s History Museum on Sunday, December 13th at 3:00pm ET for a free virtual walkthrough of our latest exhibit, “Representation with a Hyphen: Latinas in the Fight for Women’s Suffrage” with NWHM Public History Research Intern and curator of this exhibit, Mariana Brazão. This project is presented in partnership with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.</p><p>This exhibit tells the story of Latinas' bicultural political engagement and experience through the suffrage movement. For these Latina suffragists, their cultural background shaped their notions of civic duty and citizenship in the United States. Their fight for representation was multifaceted, combining both their belief in women’s equal rights and their dedication to preserving their cultural heritage. Join us as we take a trip through the history of Latina activism in the United States. We will amplify the voices of Latina women, such as Adelina “Nina” Otero-Warren, Jovita Idár, Maria Guadalupe Evangelina de Lopez, and Luisa Capetillo for their feverous work in advancing the suffrage movement in New Mexico, California, Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. From translating suffrage materials to Spanish to writing op-eds about the unfair treatment of Mexican-Americans in newspapers, these histories demonstrate that Latina women were, and continue to be, a force to be reckoned with.</p>
