Event description
The 12th Annual Fighting Poverty with Faith Vigil will take place on January 7th from 3-4pm at the Rhode Island State House. Join us!

About this Event

Join us as we gather on January 7th for the first 2020 session of the Rhode Island General Assembly and remind our elected officials of their responsibility to those living in poverty.

Every year, we gather at the State House to provide inspiration and encouragement to our elected officials that together we can improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders and reduce poverty in our state. At the Vigil, in addition to hearing our keynote speaker (TBA), you will also hear the coalition's focus and specific policies for legislative action for the 2020 calendar year.

We believe that all Rhode Islanders deserve food security, affordable housing, decent wages, quality education and accessible healthcare. As a community, we all have a responsibility to protect and support all Rhode Islanders, whatever our religion, race/ethnicity, immigration status, gender, age or socioeconomic standing. Grounded in our faith traditions, we are called to educate, empower and advocate.

During the Vigil, we will:

* bear witness to our faith traditions and teachings that we are to be a community that cares for all, not just some

* call on elected officials to govern with care, compassion and wisdom

* propose specific policies for legislative action in 2020

* cultivate and offer inspiration and encouragement in the struggle for economic justice.

Please join us!
