12th Annual BMEII Symposium The Precision Medicine Imperative: The Quest to Extend Healthcare The BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai focuses on the use of multimodality imaging for brain, heart, and cancer research, along with research in nanomedicine for precision imaging and drug delivery. Our team conducts cutting edge research and serves as a research catalyst for a new generation of translational and molecular imaging methodologies to advance human health.Now in its 12th year, the BMEII Symposium highlights the multidisciplinary nature of our institute and facilitates exchanges between innovators across the globe in the areas of biomedical imaging, nanomedicine, artificial intelligence, accessible technologies, and wearable sensors. In this dynamic panel, leading experts in medical imaging will discuss the transformative role of cutting-edge technologies in healthcare. The discussion will focus on integrating advanced imaging with digital health platforms, data analytics, and AI, emphasizing their impact on patient care and wellness. The panelists will explore challenges in integrating these high-tech solutions into existing healthcare systems and the potential they hold for personalized medicine and preventive healthcare. This session offers a glimpse into the future of healthcare, highlighting the central role of imaging technology in enhancing patient outcomes and extending lifespans.

Nanomedicine uses nanometer-sized materials to deliver medicines to certain sites in the body. The potential of this approach has been demonstrated by the COVID-19 vaccines, amongst others. However, only a tiny fraction of the nanotherapeutic formulations developed in research labs end up being approved for human use. This panel session will discuss why the clinical success rate of nanotherapeutics is so low and what scientists and regulators can do to improve it.
