Join Historic Harrisville, Inc. and the St. Denis Community Center for a dynamic conversation about the evolving role of community and what it means for Harrisville and the Monadnock Region, taking place at the Spinning Room in the Granite Mill. This is an opportunity to connect with neighbors, share your experiences, and explore project ideas for a stronger, more resilient community.This event is free &amp; open to the public. <h3>Meet Your Facilitators</h3>Kiki Berk: Kiki Berk is a Professor of Philosophy at Southern New Hampshire University. She received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the VU University Amsterdam in 2010. Her current research interests are Philosophy of Death and Philosophy of Meaning in Life.Mohamed Defaa: Mohamed Defaa is certified by the International Center for Educational and Cultural Consulting in Lyon, France. He earned an MA in Communication and Expression at the University Mohamed V in Rabat, Morocco, and a BA in French Language and Literature from the University Ibn Tofail in Kénitra, Morocco. Defaa has served as an assistant professor of Communication and Cultural Expression at the University Hassan the Second in Casablanca, Morocco, and a college instructor in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He is a French and Arabic teacher at Merrimack High School, and an Arabic instructor at Southern New Hampshire University.

<h3>About Historic Harrisville, Inc. and the St. Denis Community Center</h3>For over 50 years, Historic Harrisville, Inc. (HHI) has worked to preserve the historical character of Harrisville and enhance the quality of life, community spirit, beauty, and economic vitality of this New England mill town. Today, HHI provides space in the former mills, boarding houses, workers’ cottages, and other buildings to artists, lawyers, woodworkers, a daycare center, textile retail store and company, post office, architects, and to residents as affordable housing. Historic Harrisville also owns and operates the Harrisville General Store, and offers public hiking trails on conserved land.Most recently, thanks to funding from the Community Development Finance Authority’s (CDFA) Community Center Investment Program, HHI is developing a historic landmark in the heart of town to serve the community in a new way. The transformation of St. Denis Church, originally built in 1885, into the St. Denis Community Center will create a central, walkable, and accessible gathering space for Harrisville residents and the Monadnock region. The 4,800-square-foot center will offer a wide range of activities focused on community, connection, the arts, civic engagement, and access to social resources and local knowledge.When completed, the St. Denis Community Center will serve as a much-needed “third place” — a space beyond home and work where people can gather, share experiences, exchange ideas, support each other, and feel a true sense of belonging. Through this investment, the town of Harrisville is preserving history and building a future where everyone—young and old, recent transplants and long-time residents—has a welcoming place to connect year-round.
