Community Training - Interrupting Racism: Amplifying Individual Awareness

This training lays the foundation for a common understanding of the breadth and depth of racism, and its impact on all aspects of society.

<h3> This is a two-day online training:</h3><h3>Saturday and Sunday, January 16th &amp; 17th, 10am -1pm ET both days.</h3><p>Join the LABAN/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies as we embark on a process of transformative change. For this, part one of a four-part social justice training tailored to the specific needs of our community, LIMS invites you to participate in gaining a deeper understanding of racism and its impact on our community.</p><p>Space is limited to 50 people so please register early. Experiencing the History of Racism Timeline in community increases awareness and commitment to racial equity. </p><p>Activities and exercises address:</p><ul><li>Community Agreements for engaging in learning together </li><li>History of Race &amp; Racism in the US Timeline </li><li>Unpacking our personal histories of race and racism </li><li>Data on the material impact of racism today </li><li>Stereotypes, prejudice &amp; bias in professional dance as well as society at large</li><li>Social identity and perspective </li><li>Intersectionality and the complexity of belonging </li><li>Looking through the lens of diversity, equity &amp; inclusion to identify racism in dance</li><li>Language for talking about race, ethnicity and racism </li><li>Engaging with cultural humility </li></ul><h2>About Human in Common</h2><p><a href="https://www.humanincommon.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Human In Common</a> is an innovative team of experienced diversity consultants. Supported by research and with attention  to current events, our trainings engage participants with meaningful discussion and activities to: </p><ul><li>Examine and un-learn bias </li><li>Develop skills to effectively respond to and prevent harassment and discrimination</li><li>Engage cultural humility to shift workplace culture </li><li>Exercise diversity and upstander skills by exploring real-world scenarios</li><li>Use our template for respectfully engaging in challenging conversations</li><li>Operationalize diversity, equity and inclusion into policy and practice  </li></ul><p>All of our trainings are interactive and include: data, videos, skill-building exercises, partner and small group activities, templates for challenging conversations, scenarios and a toolkit for taking  action. Participants leave our trainings with a certificate of attendance, increased social awareness, confidence, practical skills, useful material to bring back to their workplaces, and a  renewed commitment to promote diversity, equity and inclusion on the job and within their various communities.</p><p></p>
