Bike Decatur Community Workshop -- Lunchtime

Join us for an interactive Virtual Community Workshop to help shape the Decatur Bicycle Plan!

The Decatur Urbanized Area Transportation Study (DUATS) serves as the regional transportation planning entity for the Decatur Urbanized Area and fulfills federal and state requirements for transportation planning in urban areas with more than 50,000 persons. Today the entity fulfills the all-important role of coordinating regional coordination efforts to ensure that regional transportation activities are undertaken in a coordinated and interrelated manner. DUATS is working along with its partners Decatur Park District, City of Decatur, Macon County, and the Village of Mt. Zion to develop a regional bicycle plan called Bike Decatur. Bike Decatur will provide the City of Decatur, DUATS, and Decatur Park District with policies, best practices, and strategic direction for implementing a sustainable active transportation system for the benefit of Decatur residents and visitors.And we want those who live and or work in the area to help shape the future of bicycling.A bicycle plan is a published document describing long-range objectives for promoting bicycling as a safe and comfortable mode of travel in a city or region. The plan may include bicycle paths, protected bicycle lanes, bicycle parking, and integration with public transit as ways to promote bicycling as a viable transportation option. This study will be focused on fulfilling the following objectives: •	Prepare design guidance for infrastructure improvements based on industry best practices •	Develop key recommendations for programs and policies to help achieve Bicycle Friendly City status. •	Propose a bicycle network for the Decatur Area based on analysis, public engagement, and possible funding opportunities. So how can you contribute to the future of the Region? You can attend a community workshop. The Community Workshop is a key component in developing a bicycle plan that serves everyone, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend! The virtual meeting will provide an interactive opportunity for participants to guide discussions about the Decatur Area’s bicycling needs, review early study findings, and identify bicycle opportunities in the region. The first Community Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2020, with two opportunities to participate from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. CDT and 6:00-7:00 PM.
