Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented was established in 2007 to assist and support gifted individuals in developing their talents, strengths, and abilities. BVGT offers frequent educational programs for parents and teachers of gifted children. BVGT advocates steadfastly for educational support and programming for gifted students by increasing awareness of the nature and needs of gifted student. Pop culture, naturally, is a highly influential force in the lives of gifted kids. So why not harness it as a way to develop and support their gifts and talents as well as their social-emotional learning? In this presentation, find out the benefits of pop culture media, how students take identity cues from pop culture mentors and role models, how to design and implement learning experiences using pop culture, and why it’s important to give gifted kids the freedom to geek out. Doug Alexander, MA NBCT, is a passionate teacher advocate for gifted students. He works as a gifted education instructional specialist for Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) and is the president of Colorado Association for Gifted &amp; Talented (CAGT).
