It is not a ticket.</h3><h3> </h3>On Friday, July 25 the Intrepid Museum will host a special Astronomy Night event, part of the Astro Live Series. This month, hear from Polaris Dawn astronauts Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon! As part of the groundbreaking Polaris Program, Polaris Dawn pushed the boundaries of private space exploration by achieving the first commercial spacewalk, the highest Earth orbit ever flown by humans, and the inaugural use of SpaceX's advanced Starlink laser-based communications. Gillis and Menon, both trailblazing engineers and mission specialists, will share insights from their record-breaking experience and what it meant to be on the front lines of a new era in human spaceflight.The talk will take place in the Intrepid Museum's Lutnick Theater in Hangar 1. Last entry is at 7:30pm (subject to early closure based on capacity). All guests must enter through the second floor of the Welcome Center to receive a ticket before entering the Museum.</h3><h3> The talk will start promptly at 7:00pm, doors for Astronomy Night will close at 7:30pm (subject to close earlier if capacity is reached). Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once capacity is reached, the doors will close. Please note: Museum exhibitions will NOT be open during this event. Sarah "Cooper" Gillis, Mission Specialist, is an astronaut and Senior Space Operations Engineer at SpaceX. She was responsible for helping create SpaceX’s astronaut training program, including the development of mission-specific curriculum and training execution for both NASA and commercial astronauts who fly aboard the Dragon spacecraft. She prepared NASA astronauts for the first Demo-2 and Crew-1 missions along with the crew of Inspiration4, the first all-civilian astronauts to go to orbit.In September 2024, Sarah and the Polaris Dawn crew flew the farthest within Earth’s orbit since the end of the Apollo program, completed the first spacewalk from Dragon in SpaceX-designed extravehicular activity suits, tested Starlink laser-based communications in space for the first time, and conducted ~40 science and research experiments. During the mission she became the youngest person to perform a spacewalk, and now shares the title of being one of the two women who has traveled farthest from Earth.,

Anna "Walker" Menon, Mission Specialist &amp; Medical Officer, is an astronaut and Senior Space Operations Engineer at SpaceX. Over her career at the company, she has played a pivotal role in shaping crew operations and spearheading critical emergency response strategies for spaceflight, including procedures for vehicle fires and cabin depressurization. Anna has also contributed to SpaceX's mission control, serving as Mission Director or crew communicator for seven SpaceX Dragon missions, including the historic NASA Demo-2 crewed test flight. Before joining SpaceX, Anna spent seven years at NASA as a biomedical flight controller for the International Space Station, where she was responsible for supporting astronaut health and hardware operations.In September 2024, Anna flew to space as Mission Specialist and Medical Officer on the Polaris Dawn mission, which achieved a series of historic milestones. These included the highest altitude reached by a human since the Apollo era, the first commercial spacewalk, a successful demonstration of Starlink laser communications, and the completion of nearly 40 scientific experiments. As part of the mission’s outreach, Anna co-authored and read from space the children’s book Kisses from Space, with proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Anna shares the distinction of being one of two women to travel the farthest from Earth. <h2>Moderator:</h2>

Elysia Segal is the Producer of Public Programs at the Intrepid Museum, where she brings science and history to life through creative and educational programming. A NASA Solar System Ambassador and the namesake of main-belt asteroid 17795 Elysiasegal, she co-produces Astro Live for the Museum, and is the host of This Week in Spaceflight for NASASpaceflight.com and the Popular Science Channel. She was the project director of the Museum's Crossing the Line research &amp; performance residency, and has created and performed engaging, immersive experiences for audiences across the country.

Astro Live is supported through a NASA Cooperative Agreement awarded to the New York Space Grant Consortium. The program is also supported, in part, by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
