Replacing Boards on Trollheim Bridge

The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail works to maintain and improve the Mount Vernon Trail and promote its safe use.

Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail

Volunteers are needed to help replace rotted deck boards on Bridge 31 known as Trollheim Bridge.

Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be replacing rotted deck boards on Bridge 31. This event is part of our ongoing work to prevent crashes. Bridge 31 is located near Theodore Roosevelt Island and is commonly referred to as Trollheim because of it&#x27;s slipperiness.Volunteers will perform the following work:<ul><li>Identifying rotted or broken deck boards</li><li>Using hammers and drills to remove nails and screws</li><li>Using prybars to lift boards</li><li>Carrying boards from the parking lot to the bridge</li><li>Using cordless drills to attach new boards</li><li>Using saws to cut boards to size</li><li>Momentarily halting trail traffic</li><li>This work will involving lifting, kneeling and carrying heavy deck boards</li></ul>What to Bring:<ul><li>Water</li><li>Gloves (We&#x27;ll have a few pair on hand as well)</li><li>Safety Vest (We&#x27;ll have some of these on hand as well)</li><li>Cordless drill if you have one (we&#x27;ll have some on hand but more will help)</li></ul>Where to Meet:We&#x27;ll gather near the bike racks on the south side of the Theodore Roosevelt parking lot at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 19th.COVID Safety Precautions: All volunteers are expected to wear a face covering and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other volunteers. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use. We&#x27;ll have some hand sanitizer available. We&#x27;ll have gloves and bright safety vests to use but recommend bringing your own if you have them.Fundraising for Non-Slip Treatment:We&#x27;re raising funds to install a non-slip treatment on the bridge.
