No, chairs will be provided to you so you can be comfortable while watching the fireflies.

Can I bring my two-year old?

No, sorry, this tour is not appropriate for children under 5.

What if it rains?

Heavy rain will cancel the program and a refund will be given. Or  your tour will be rescheduled if possible. If you are not able to reschedule, a refund will be given.

Can I bring my 90 year old Mom?

Definitely!! People of all ages can enjoy this program together. The walk to the viewing area is short, and mostly level.

Do I need to bring a flashlight?

No, flashlights will be lent to you. They will only be needed when we are done watching the fireflies and walking back to the parking area.

Can I catch the fireflies?

Accepted Answer

No. The blue ghost fireflies are only the size of a grain of rice. It's easy to crush them with our big --or little--hands.

Will I be able to photograph the fireflies?

Accepted Answer

No, photography is not allowed because it distracts other guests and is extremely challenging to capture, even for professional photographers. For this tour, we invite you to simply ENJOY the experience and BE IN THE MOMENT with us.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing and shoes, and maybe a long sleeve shirt since our forest tends to be a bit cooler than Asheville, especially at night.

How long is the walk?

Walking from the deck to the firefly viewing area is less than a five minute walk! The ground is uneven but you will not be climbing over rocks, up steep hills or in difficult terrain.

What about bears? Should I be worried about bears?

Bears DO share our forest with us, but will likely avoid the area when 16 of us are sitting in the woods. Their sense of smell is amazing and will smell us a long way off. It is unlikely we will see a bear, and in the VERY rare event that we do, it will probably be its butt as it runs away.

Do you have a lot of mosquitoes?

Our property has two bat boxes and plenty of predators of mosquitoes. We don't usually have very many mosquitoes here, but of course, we are in the woods and therefore, mosquitoes do share this space with us. If you're going to use insect repellent, please apply this before arriving on the property.

What happens if we don't see any blue ghosts?

If you don't see any blue ghosts, I will refund your money! But unless it's pouring down rain, or this year is different than the previous 10 years, you WILL see fireflies!!

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are not allowed. Please leave your dog at home.

Why do you only allow 16 people?

I like to keep the blue ghost firefly tour intimate, making it a special experience for all attendants. In addition, I want to minimize our impact on the forest and the tiny blue ghosts. Also, in the event of a downpour at 9pm, I may have to reschedule participants to another night.
