Creating Community Wealth Through Community Controlled InvestmentPanelists: Todd Arena, Staff Attorney, Community Economic Development Clinic, Albany Law SchoolDavid Craft, Community Economic Development Clinic Fellow/Staff Attorney, Albany Law SchoolDiscussion Topics Will Include:<ul><li>The Original Intent of CDFI’s: An Assessment</li><li>Federal law definition of CDFIs, the goals of the model, and challenges in meeting these goals</li></ul><ul><li>Community Control of Capital: An Emerging Model</li><li>Discussing experimentation with new models of community development. Community-controlled investment funds: Oakland’s East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperative (EBPREC) and Boston Ujima Project as examples.</li></ul><ul><li>CDFIs and Buy the Block</li><li>Connecting CDFIs to local community investment initiatives in the Capital District.</li><li>Describe Buy the Block initiative and what has been done to date. </li><li>Discuss potential role of CDFIs in community control of capital initiatives such as this one. </li><li>Outline how such initiatives can provide CRA credit for banks through partnerships with CDFIs and/or community-controlled investment funds.</li></ul>Join colleagues and allies from all over New York State in a series of webinars and online panel discussions. Share your successes and challenges in delivering much-needed financial resources to underserved communities.
