Πώς μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν τα δίχτυα των ψαράδων, τα σχοινιά, οι κάβοι των πλοίων; Στο BlueCycle Lab, στον Πειραιά, οι επισκέπτες θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να δουν σε λειτουργία τον μοναδικό στην Ελλάδα large-scale 3D printer και να γνωρίσουν τις δυνατότητες που δίνει η τεχνολογία για την αξιοποίηση των θαλάσσιων πλαστικών απορριμμάτων που προέρχονται από την αλιεία και τη ναυτιλία. Επιπλέον, θα πάρουν μια γεύση από όλη τη διαδικασία για την επεξεργασία του υλικού, από τη συλλογή και τον διαχωρισμό, έως τη δημιουργία πρώτης ύλης για τη βιομηχανία αλλά και ανακυκλωμένου νήματος για τρισδιάστατους εκτυπωτές.

How can we make the most of the fishing nets, ropes and mooring ropes? At BlueCycle Lab, in Piraeus, visitors will have the opportunity to see operating the only large-scale 3D printer in Greece and to get to know the possibilities provided by technology for recycling and upcycling marine plastic waste generated by the fishing and shipping industry. In addition, they will get a taste of the material processing, from collection and separation, to the creation of raw material for plastics industry and recycled filament for 3D printers.

Το ντοκιμαντέρ μικρού μήκους “Second Nature” παρουσιάζει το πρόβλημα των εγκαταλελειμμένων διχτυών στο βυθό της θάλασσας και τη δυνατότητα αξιοποίησης αυτού του υλικού ως μια νέα πρώτη ύλη με την βοήθεια των νέων τεχνολογιών. Ο φακός ακολουθεί τους The New Raw, το αρχιτεκτονικό δίδυμο Πάνου Σακκά και Φωτεινής Σετάκη, στο ταξίδι τους στο Γαλαξείδι, όπου στήνουν ένα κινητό εργαστήριο τρισδιάστατης εκτύπωσης και δημιουργούν κοχύλια – σύμβολα της θαλάσσιας καθαρότητας – από ένα «δίχτυ-φάντασμα» που ανασύρουν από τον βυθό. Δημιουργός της, η κινηματογραφίστρια Δάφνη Ματζιαράκη, η οποία προτάθηκε για Όσκαρ το 2017.
Η ταινία προβλήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια του Συμποσίου Second Nature στην Αθήνα, στο Κινηματογραφικό Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών του Σίδνεϋ, ενώ ήταν στις τελικές υποψηφιότητες για τα Διεθνή Κινηματογραφικά Βραβεία Αειφορίας (Global Sustainability Film Awards), τα οποία διοργανώνονται από το TVE στα BAFTA.

The short documentary “Second Nature” sheds light to the problem of abandoned fishing nets and how these can be re-used, as raw material, with the help of new technologies. The award-winning documentary filmmaker and Oscar nominee Daphne Matziaraki follows The New Raw, a Rotterdam based architect duo Panos Sakkas and Foteini Setaki, to their journey in Galaxidi, where they set up a mobile 3D-printing lab and make seashells –symbols of a clean sea– from ghostnets recovered from the sea. 
The film was screened at the Second Nature Symposium in Piraeus, at the Sydney Film Festival, and was nominated for the Global Sustainability Film Awards, organized by TVE at the BAFTAs.
