The New American Integration Program: A Successful Model

The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) is the largest organization advocating for the rights and integration of immigrants and refugees across our Commonwealth. Founded in 1987, we serve more than 1 million foreign-born people through policy analysis and advocacy, institutional organizing, education and strategic communications.MIRA is powered by our 130+ members, including grassroots organizations; legal, social and health service providers; faith-based organizations, and civil and human rights advocacy groups.

A panel from MIRA's in-house NAIP program shares impact stories of 10 years of community service and immigrant integration efforts.

Join MIRA Coalition on Tuesday, December 8th to hear stories from NAIP AmeriCorps Members of the impact their service had on immigrant and refugee-serving organizations across the Commonwealth! Since 2011, an estimated 25,000 immigrants and refugees have connected with members of the New American Integration Program (NAIP) to improve their English, obtain citizenship, and get better jobs. Looking back on the past ten years since the NAIP program began, alumni service members have grown to nearly 300 passionate individuals who expanded the capacity of 60 partner site organizations to provide important services to our immigrant communities across Massachusetts. AmeriCorps members, many of whom are from immigrant and refugee communities themselves, become skilled and passionate service providers, educators, interpreters and leaders in their communities and beyond. Each year, up to 30 AmeriCorps members serve nearly 5,000 immigrants and refugees from over 106 different countries. Members are placed at immigrant- and refugee-serving organizations across the Commonwealth, serving residents of Greater Boston, Lynn, MetroWest, Central Massachusetts, New Bedford, and the Merrimack Valley.About MIRA's Fall Speaker Series:In order to familiarize the wider community of immigrant-rights supporters about the nature and impact of our work, MIRA will be presenting a Speaker Series every Tuesday from November 10-December 8th, at 1pm EST.
