Domestic Violence as seen through the eyes of a local Detective, Police Victim Advocate, Minister and Family Therapist

Welcome to TMWF&#x27;s Webinar Speaker Series! Please join us Friday, October 23, 2020 as we speak with a diverse group of professionals in the DFW area. TMWF will host this Webinar on ZOOM and FB Live. The ZOOM link will be sent to all registered participants.The topic of discussion is: Domestic Violence-Community ResponsibilityDid you know that:<ul><li>Domestic Violence happens in every community, race, each socioeconomic group and religion</li></ul><ul><li>Domestic Violence is a national and global crisis that disproportionately affects women</li></ul><ul><li>Domestic Violence produces an intergenerational cycle of abuse in children and family members, who may feel that such violence is acceptable or condoned</li></ul>Please join us as we explore the impact Domestic Violence has on our community as seen through the eyes of a Minister, Detective, Police Victim Advocate and Family Therapist.Our moderator for this event will be Rev. Deanna Hollas. The Reverand is the Gun Violence Prevention Ministry Coordinator with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and the co-founder of Retreat House Spirituality Center in Richardson, TX. In her role with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, Rev. Hollas empowers individuals and congregations across the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination as they embody Jesus’s call to love God and love neighbor by being informed and active in ending gun violence. Kristin Nichols currently works as a Detective for the Plano Police Dept. and started her law enforcement career with them in November 2004. Kristin spent 13 years in patrol and the last three working as a Detective in their Family Violence Unit. When she first entered the unit, she investigated Crimes Against Children cases. Since February 2020, Kristin has been investigating Family Violence cases.Jessica Serrano is one of the Victim Advocates for the Plano Police department and has received extensive training on working with victims of crime especially domestic violence and sexual assault victims. Jessica has developed and provided multiple training to law enforcement officers, victim advocates, college students, and the community on different victim-related topics. In November 2018 Jessica became a Comprehensive Victim Specialist through the National Advocate Credential Program. Dr. Denise Ziya Berte is a licensed doctoral level clinical psychologist with over 25 years experience in forensic psychology and trauma (including domestic violence) and international issues related to mental health , war and refugees. Dr. Berte is an international trainer in the areas of Mental Health and Trauma presenting to community and professional audiences on a regular basis. Dr. Berte is currently practicing in the PA, NJ and DE areas. Dr. Berte is a practicing Muslim and strives to enrich and enhance Muslim communities whenever possible. Can&#x27;t make it to the event?
