Poetry Performance & Bucky Readings

The Center for Spirituality and Sustainability is an independent, not-for-profit organization located in a geodesic dome designed by Buckminster Fuller on land leased from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Since 1971 the Center has served the University and area communities as a place for multifaith and interfaith activity.  A variety of educational, cultural and social events are held throughout the year inside this landmark structure.Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Baha’i and Native American faith traditions hold devotions, celebrations and public programs at the Center. A “Celebration of World Faiths” is held annually, highlighting various faith traditions and interfaith issues. The Center also hosts an annual awards ceremony honoring two awardees each year. One award is presented for spiritual leadership and another for leadership in sustainability. These annual dual awards allow the Center recognize those who have shown leadership values that reenforce the Center's mission to promote humanity's sacred connection to the Earth and each other.

Fuller Dome 90th Day Conference

The Fuller Dome, Center for Spirituality and Sustainability is offering a schedule of special programs in collaboration with the Buckminster Fuller Institute and the Estate of Buckminster Fuller. This five-day series of events begins on Thursday, 3/27/25.

Students and writers from across the region will be coming together in the Fuller Dome to share poetry readings with the accompaniment of a Jazz trio. In 1961 Buckminster Fuller was appointed to the prestigious Charles Eliot Norton Professorship of Poetry at Harvard. This engaging program will be featuring readings of Bucky’s own poetry both recorded in his voice a performed live along with the original poetry of local writers. Featuring readings from:Rabbi James Stone GoodmanRabbi James Stone Goodman (Hebrew Union College '81) serves the Central Reform Congregation, in St. Louis, Missouri. He performs with several musical groups, and with his wife Rabbi Susan Talve, creating original materials based on traditional themes, integrating story and music in a performance art form.He is a writer and a musician, playing guitar, oud, percussion and other instruments of the eastern Mediterranean. In addition to rabbinical training, he has an MFA in creative writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.He has published three books to date of poetry and prose, and has recorded 15 collections of poetry, sacred story, and music.Rabbi Goodman's special field of expertise is the Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, on which he writes and lectures widely.Brandon LaneBrandon Lane is an artist, educator and entrepreneur working with the sacred urge towards meaning and mystery. As a land artist, Brandon plays with mass and gravity to create precariously balanced stone sculptures. As a spoken word artist, Brandon plays with language and cadence to create moving and memorable poetic experiences. As an educator, Brandon helps students connect the dots between their innate gifts and their external actions. Brandon has been a student of Bucky Fuller for nearly two decades and finds great wisdom and resonance in Fuller's poetry and prose.
