The Orionids are active every year in October, usually peaking around October 20/21. At its peak, up to 20 meteors are visible every hour!

<p>Orionid meteors fly each year between about October 2 to November 7. That’s when Earth is passing through the stream of debris left behind by Comet Halley, the parent comet of the Orionid shower.  Best yet, the waxing crescent moon will set at early-to-mid-evening, providing dark skies for the 2020 Orionid meteor shower. </p><p>Come out to Hawthorn Hollow Schoolyard Observatory for a late night event and relax in our zero_gravity chairs while watching these spectacular meteors. </p>
