How are Virginia's forests faring in the face of ongoing development and climate change? One special species has captured the hearts and minds of many Virginia foresters involved in answering these questions: the longleaf pine.Join Team Forests and Dr. Rick Myers from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to learn about how the longleaf pine used to constitute a majority of Virginia forests south of the James River until it was nearly extirpated - for a variety of reasons - by 1893. Restoration efforts have made great strides towards bringing the species back to abundance, but will it be enough? Join us!<h3>About the 2020 Conservation Games</h3>Join Team Fields, Team Forests, or Team Streams as these teams compete in the 2020 Conservation Games, a multi-week celebration and fundraising experience to support the conservation work of Capital Region Land Conservancy in the Richmond region. Participants earn points for their team by fundraising and participating in the free learning and volunteer events.
