Virginia is rapidly compromising its viability to serve as a leading agricultural producer, despite agriculture being its largest industry — and a beloved dimension of its heritage and culture. That’s according in part to a new report, Farms Under Threat: The State of the States, published by the American Farmland Trust (AFT), which shows us that since 1982, Virginia alone has lost 40 acres of agricultural land for every new person added to the state’s population. Why is this happening, and how might we better preserve our agricultural lands in the Commonwealth?Join Team Fields and CRLC Executive Director, Parker Agelasto, as we breakdown the alarming loss of farmland in Virginia and discuss conservation practices that are needed to change the tide.<h3>About the 2020 Conservation Games</h3>Join Team Fields, Team Forests, or Team Streams as these teams compete in the 2020 Conservation Games, a multi-week celebration and fundraising experience to support the conservation work of Capital Region Land Conservancy in the Richmond region. Participants earn points for their team by fundraising and participating in the free learning and volunteer events.
