Reframing the Picture: A New Vision for Our Students

Leadership in Diversity, LID, is a student led organization that  aims to help maintain and encourage confidence and success in students  of  color as they pursue careers in the field of education.LID was started by two Neag students in 2014. It was their hope that through mentorship, professional development and peer support, students of color in the School of Education could have a space to discuss issues and grow together as leaders while also growing professionally.

Our theme this year, Reframing the Picture: A New Vision for Our Students, was inspired by the start of a new decade.

<p>Our theme this year, Reframing the Picture: A New Vision for Our Students, was inspired by the start of a new decade. Being that it is 2020, we wanted to link the phrase “2020 vision” to the theme of our conference. As we thought deeper about 2020 vision, we saw it as an opportunity to focus our attention on the importance of student voice and identity. The aim of our conference is to uplift and provide clarity to educators and professionals in the field of education. This is a conference for professionals in the education field, current students in teacher prep programs and those interested in the field of education. It is open to all UConn undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff, as well as professionals, students, and educators from institutions and districts outside of UConn. The conference will open with remarks from a keynote speaker (stay tuned for this release!). Attendees will have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions on a variety of topics related to multicultural education and culturally responsive teaching. If you would like to submit a presentation proposal, please visit our <a href="https://forms.gle/134PshxyTVfc3HC96" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Google Form</a>.
