Since 1999, the DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) — the oldest independent film festival in Washington, DC — has showcased bold features, documentaries, shorts, animation, and experimental works from around the world. Reimagined in 2022 as an Annual Film Forum, DCIFF connects filmmakers and audiences through conversation, networking, and innovative programming in the Nation’s Capital.

DCIFF  brings the annual forum of films, workshops and discussions  to celebrate established and emerging talent in fiction, documentary and animation filmmaking. DCIFF --- keeping a truly independent spirit alive in the DMV for 26 years!

Overview: In Washington, D.C. Black residents have faced barriers rooted in the legacies of enslavement, segregation, and serial displacement, all of which have contributed to the Black wealth gap still present today. This gap, the result of intentional policies, is starkly illustrated by the disparity in net worth between Black and white households in the D.C. Metropolitan area.Director SABIYHA PRINCE, cultural anthropologist, has been a social justice organizer since the 1980s. Starting with the anti-apartheid movement, she has also been an environmental justice and anti-war activist working with The Washington Office on Africa and Greenpeace respectively. Prince, a published author and public speaker, also chairs the board of directors for Empower DC and is a founding member of its offshoot organization the DC Legacy Project.
