Workshop for therapists & counsellors in private or alternative practice with intention for Justice-Doing & enacting collective ethics.

November 24 &amp; 25, 2020Times: Wellington 11-2 pm, Melbourne 9-12 pmSustainability requires that we engage with an ethics of Justice-Doing in our work, which can be a struggle for folks in alternative or independent (or private ) practice. This workshop for practitioners in Aotearoa/New Zealand &amp; Australia aims to build intentional community to hold space for a rigorous investigation into the ethics alive in our alternative practice, and to offer strategies for solidarity, collective care &amp; collective accountability, and paths to community accountability.Many alternative counsellors and therapists attempt to stay ethical within the context of privatization and social injustice, especially in terms of who gets to access help and how our practices can be more just and available. In this workshop we'll address the binary of private practice vs social sector work, as there are fabulous folks doing justice in each. It's not where you work that makes you ethical, it's your ethical stance, accountability practices and keeping persons at the centre. Many practitioners have sought alternative work to be more ethical than some agency/authority has allowed for. We'll explore these tensions in practice together with a spirit of solidarity.We will be exploring the following ideas related to sustaining ourselves and promoting ethical practice within the context of independent and alternative practice:•	An ethical stance for Justice -Doing and trying-to-be Decolonizing practice•	Resisting isolation, building solidarity, and collective accountability•	Inviting community accountability practices•	Sustainability &amp; ‘The Zone of Fabulousness’: Resisting Burnout, Disconnection, and Enmeshment•	Collaborative Supervisory Frameworks: Living Supervision &amp; Solidarity GroupsInquiries: info@rbpa.co.nz

Vikki Reynolds (PhD RCC) is an activist/ therapist who works to bridge the worlds of social justice activism with community work and therapy. Vikki is a white settler on the territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam nations. Vikki's people are Irish, Newfoundland and English folks, and she is a heterosexual woman with cisgender privilege. Her experience includes supervision and therapy with peers and other workers responding to the opioid catastrophe, refugees and survivors of torture - including Indigenous people who have survived residential schools and other state violence, sexualized violence counsellors, mental health and substance misuse counsellors, housing and shelter workers, activists and working alongside gender and sexually diverse communities.
