Since 2019, the Black Scranton Project (BSP) has been dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history and contributions of African Americans in Scranton and beyond. What began as a grassroots effort to bring Black History Month initiatives to the Electric City has grown into a thriving cultural movement.Each year, BSP aligns with the national Black History Month theme (African Americans and Labor) while curating its own unique focus. This year, we’re proud to present "A Labor of Love"—a theme that honors the work, creativity, and passion that have gone into building Black Scranton Project as both a nonprofit and a cultural institution.Through engaging events, art installations, and exhibitions, we’ll reflect on the progress we've made, celebrate our firsts, and revisit the moments that shaped BSP's journey. "A Labor of Love" invites us to explore African American history as American history—through the lens of art, culture, and community.We invite you to join us for our Annual Black History Month Kick-Off Reception on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2 PM at the Black Scranton Project Center for Arts &amp; Culture.
