Food for Life: Cooking to Combat COVID-19 *Free Online Cooking Classes*

The Food for Life program is a community-based nutrition education program of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). PCRM is a nonprofit organization advancing preventive medicine, primarily good nutrition, and supports higher standards in research.After reaping the benefits of a vegan diet for over 14 years and through four healthy pregnancies, Sahrah decided it was time to share the joy of good health, great food, and plant-based nutrition with the rest of the world.  As a Food for Life instructor, Sahrah unites her passion for teaching, cooking, and eating to empower and encourage others to seek a healthier lifestyle by making simple, yet tasty dietary changes.  Sahrah enthusiastically demonstrates how plant-based eating is not just another fad, but a scientifically proven approach for weight management and disease reversal.In her free time, Sahrah loves to bake and recreate low-fat, vegan comfort food for her family and friends.  When Sahrah isn’t teaching, she also enjoys reading and sewing.“I became a Food for Life Instructor to teach others that eating right can not only sustain perfect health but be simple, fun, and delicious.  Following the program can produce life-changing results.  I want to be a part of that"

People with underlying health conditions make up 94% of COVID-19 deaths in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans, who are affected disproportionately by these conditions, are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19.Cooking To Combat COVID-19 teaches participants how to use a plant-based diet to fight hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity—which are among the conditions that can make COVID-19 more severe and deadly.In this online class series, you will learn about immune-boosting foods, diabetes prevention and reversal, heart health, and maintaining a healthy weight, as well as tips on planning a budget-friendly weekly or monthly menu with pantry staples.This four-class series also includes:<ul><li>Research-based nutrition and health information</li><li>A whole-food, plant-based cooking demo</li><li>Digital educational resources and recipes</li><li>A supportive community</li></ul>Class dates:<ul><li>Thursday, October 1 at 6 pm</li><li>Thursday, October 8 at 6pm</li><li>Thursday, October 15 at 6 pm</li><li>Thursday, October 22 at 6 pm</li></ul>*Participants are encouraged to attend all four classes.
