Lighthouse Collaborative Summary: The Lighthouse Collaborative (LC) is a cross-district instructional improvement initiative designed to support the Chancellor’s Four Pillars, with an emphasis on expanding our ability to “scale, sustain and restore what works” through collaborative inquiry and sharing of promising practices. All Lighthouse Collaborative schools open their doors to a citywide audience to share promising practices within an instructional focus area.

Visit Summary: P.S. 089 Bronx is a K-8 school located in the Bronx.

At this Lighthouse Collaborative visit, participants will:

  • Learn about the schoolwide instructional strategies PS 089 utilizes to implement the Expeditionary Learning curriculum with an emphasis on enhancing explicit writing instruction, differentiation strategies for MLLs, and opportunities for project-based learning and curriculum-related leave-to-learns.
  • Gain valuable insights into PS 089’s journey in implementing Expeditionary Learning with considerations for pacing, as well as the role administrators play in leveraging teams, systems, and structures for successful implementation.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations with teachers, coaches, and school leaders to collaboratively explore challenges, successes, and lessons learned with implementing the Expeditionary Learning curriculum.

At the end of the day, visitors will have the opportunity to plan how these practices can be incorporated into their own work.
