About this event

Join us for GW Biomedical Cross-disciplinary Seminar Series: Connecting Academic Research & Inquiry Across Disciplines—a series of seminars that will explore a new cross-disciplinary topic each year. For the inaugural year, the focus is "Inflammation in Chronic Disease: Cause, Consequence, or Both?" and will address both the treatment and prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases.

This lecture on “COVID-19 and Inflammation” is with Hana Akselrod, MD, MPH, an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Prior to joining the GW Medical Faculty Associates she trained in internal medicine in Portland, Maine. She completed her MPH training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Climate Change and Health Program at the Yale School of Public Health. At GW, she has been active in medical education, serving as a faculty mentor in the Quality Improvement and the Clinical Public Health curriculum programs. She conducts research on HIV and aging as part of the DC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and DC Cohort Longitudinal HIV study.

The seminar series runs from the present through September 2021. It was organized by the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology and the Office of Integrative Medicine and Health.
