The Weld 2020! An Introduction to "The B Word"

The Welders is a DC-based playwrights’ collective whose mission is to establish an evolving, alternative platform for play development and production. The intent of that platform is to inspire and encourage members to take risks and make bold leaps in exploring the craft of playwriting; produce one performance of work created by each member playwrights over the course of three years; create significant, meaningful, direct engagement between artists and members of the community; and support future generations of DC-area playwrights.

THE MAIN EVENTAs we prepare for a robust year of performances and events in 2021, we’d like to invite you to learn more about Jared Shamberger’s 2021 documentary theatre project, The B Word. Devised from a series of interviews featuring Black, gay men in the DC-area, The B Word investigates Black, gay men’s relationship to the concept of beauty, self-worth, and their own queer identities. Join The Welders as we address questions that the documentary project poses for ourselves and share a few insightful reflections from B Word interviewees. THE &quot;LET-OUT&quot;After the presentation, stick around on Zoom to ask us questions about our plans and projects for the year ahead. The presentation is approximately 30 minutes and the discussion to follow is approximately 30 minutes. *The Weld 2020 is free with a reserved online ticket. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so when you reserve your ticket. Zoom details will be sent to all ticket holders prior to the event.
