Learn to bundle dye your own silk square with botanical colors extracted from flowers, vegetables and kitchen scraps

Workshop details:This workshop is the perfect primer to the world of at-home natural dyeing. Swati Bansal will show you how to bundle-dye your own silk square, including proper preparation, pattern making, and the post-dye drying and steaming process. Along the way, learn how to mordant cellulose and protein fibers, how to identify and use common household ingredients as dyestuffs, as well as how to extract and store color. Included is a natural dye resource guide highlighting the basic processes involved along with a few inspirational DIY projects using natural dyes.Material packet add-on (recommended) will be shipped to you directly prior to workshop date &amp; includes:Pre-mordanted silk square &amp; selection of plant materials to use during the workshop for bundle dyeing- or -Prefer to source your own materials or would like to just sit in &amp; absorb Swati’s wealth of knowledge without getting your hands dirty today, or missed our shipping window? Swati recommends having these (or similar) tools on hand:<ul><li>Any old textile you would like to dye - made of natural fibres and preferably silk for beginners. Mordanting instructions will be sent to you beforehand. </li><li>Foraged flowers like roses, cosmos, eucalyptus, coreopsis, carnations, marigolds etc., dry spice like turmeric, vegetables from your kitchen like red and yellow onion skins, red cabbage etc. </li><li>Few rusty nails, vinegar and some rubber bands or twine to tie the bundle. </li></ul>Other basic tools to have on hand:<ul><li>A large pot with lid, a strainer which can fit into the pot for steaming, an empty bowl, tongs</li><li>Access to water and heat source like a stove or hot plate</li><li>A drop cloth or any other cloth to lay your fabric on, to avoid dyeing your table!</li></ul>How to prep your space day-of:Gather your kitchen tools as mentioned above.
