August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. We invite you to honor loved ones and learn more about preventing opioid poisonings.

Join us to listen to the stories of those impacted by opioid overdose, share safe conversations, and a moment of reflection. Our presenters have suffered the tragedy of losing a loved one. Join us as we move to deeper understanding, increasing empathy and action dedicated to saving lives.Keynote Speaker: Dr. Gail Newel, Health Officer, Santa Cruz County; also a mother, activist, cancer survivor, and community champion. Dr. Newel lost her son, Nyeland, in 2016 to opioid poisoning and remains committed to living her values of prevention, inclusion and ending the silence as she speaks about the opioid use epidemic. Special Guest: Melissa Etheridge, musician, songwriter; also a mother, activist, cancer survivor, brave and courageous honorary resident of Santa Cruz.
