Mental Health First Aid - Virtual Certification

Valerie English Cooper is an independent Mental Health First Aid Instructor and founder of the Mental Health Education Collaborative. Valerie also serves as a National Trainer for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, certifying  Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and teen Mental Health First Aid instructors nationwide.  A biochemist, Valerie built the Cardio- and Cerebrovascular Marketing Department of Bayer US then founded a medical communications company based in New Haven, CT. Valerie sold her company to address the needs of family members with medical and mental health challenges. She built an ADHD (Executive Function Skills) Coaching practice and began work towards a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology before joining Mental Health Connecticut to execute SAMHSA’s (the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) “Now is the Time” Project AWARE Community Grant in a nationwide effort to make Mental Health First Aid as common as CPR/First Aid. Valerie is certified to train Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and teen Mental Health First Aid as well as specialized supplements for Higher Education, Veterans, and EMS/Fire. Valerie has two adult daughters (three if you include her beagle, Maggie) and lives in Litchfield County, Connecticut.  When not training, she can most often be found in the garden or on the trail.

Mental Health First Aid - Virtual Certificate Training - A National Council for Behavioral Health Evidence-Based Training

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based, international certificate course that teaches participants how to identify and respond to signs of mental health and substance use problems. The training teaches skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis. Participants will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online class, and then participate in a 6-hour, Instructor-led class using videoconferencing technology. The virtual training uses a newly revised curriculum with expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care. As COVID-19 is changing our daily reality, there is an important need for Mental Health First Aid to be available virtually. The National Council is pleased to announce the availability of virtual Mental Health First Aid curricula, piloted nationally through trained instructors.We thank you for choosing to #BeTheDifference.This training is supported by UConn Student Government.
