TUESDAY, AUGUST 18 THROUGH THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2020

The African diaspora refers to the communities throughout of people of African descent. The word diaspora is defined as a dispersion of a people from their original homeland.

This workshop allows us to engage with traditional and cultural movement practices such as West African dance, Latin dance, Social dance, and Hip-hop as a global art form. The Africanist aesthetic is found throughout American and non-American dance forms, this workshop allows us to embody and identify them in a way that builds community, develops identity, and creates self awareness about the human experience. The workshop is for all levels of experience and all movers, disabled and non-disabled participants are welcome. It is an invitation to the community to connect in a different way.

SAKINA IBRAHIM is an NAACP Image Award-nominated Author, Artist, Social Entrepreneur, and Educator. She has been featured on platforms such as Aspire TV, Black Enterprise Magazine and Essence Fest and more. Sakina is a passionate woman whose brand focus is creativity, education, and inspiration. She has presented workshops centered in movement, mindfulness, and self-development at institutions such as Drexel University, George Washington University (Black Girl Health Expo), University of California Irvine, the Boston Women's Conference, Michigan State University, the Trayvon Martin Foundation, and many more organizations and institutions.
