Alternatives to Incarceration: Ending the Criminalization of Serious Mental Illness

Upcoming Zoom Cast Episode: &quot;Alternatives to Incarceration&quot;</h2><h3>The over-representation of people living with serious mental illnesses within the criminal justice system is a problem that has become impossible to ignore. However, what is harder to grasp, is what to do about it.</h3><h3>No two people understand the complexity of these issues better than our next guests. We are incredibly honored to have them on our upcoming August 7th zoom cast. </h3><ul><li>Judge Steven Leifman - created Miami- Dade&#x27;s wildly successful Criminal Mental Health Project (CMHP) to steer people with mental illnesses  from pre and post booking to community-based care and,</li><li>John Snook, Executive Director of the Treatment Advocacy Center which has been instrumental in writing federal policy to remove legal barriers to psychiatric treatment and care; as well as implementing Assisted Outpatient Treatment programs across the country.</li></ul><h3>Co-hosts: <a href="https://healingmindsnola.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FINAL-Zoom-Cast-2020_-Janet-Eric-Bios-.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Janet Hays and Eric Smith</a> will lead an interactive conversation to focus on ending the criminalization of serious mental illness.
