With an emphasis on storytelling and amplifying intersectional voices, the panel will discuss the significance of (gender) education for boys and girls inside and outside of the classroom, and the implications of school closures stymying such a crucial educational experience and space (‘lost generation’). Vanitha Prabu, from Voice 4 Girls, will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on menstrual health, childcare, pregnancy rates, domestic violence, forced marriage, and more. Este panel explorará las múltiples caras del impacto de la cuarentena del COVID-19 en niñas Indias, con atención especial en los aislamientos mundiales y las consecuencias económicas y educacionales. La conversación apunta a presentar los puntos en común de la experiencia con COVID-19, mientras nos concentramos en cómo los factores en común, como los sociales, políticos, económicos, y ambientales, exacerbando la devastación de esta pandemia y con serias implicación de género en India. Vanitha’s core expertise lies in girl child programming, public health, research and monitoring. She has set up new processes and systems at place, for smoother implementation of the projects. Vanitha is passionate and dedicated towards empowering adolescent girls and women. She believes that educating them guides them to question stereotypes and helps them to become leaders in their communities – driven with responsibility. We conduct activity based camps and believe that when adolescents are provided with critical knowledge, life skills and communication skills, they can break the harmful cycle of socio-economic and gender inequality and therefore take charge of their future. Our flagship program is the Her VOICE Program, where we impart knowledge to adolescent girls on health, safety, rights, future planning and self awareness. VOICE started working with adolescent boys through the Boys 4 Change program. We want our boys to be gender ambassadors and support the vision where all girls can take charge of their futures and become leaders in their community.VOICE 4 Girls es una empresa social que trabaja con adolescentes marginados, niñas y niños en colegios privados de bajo costo y colegios gubernamentales en India. Queremos que nuestros niños sean embajadores y apoyen la visión donde todas las niñas pueden hacerse cargo de su futuro y convertirse en líderes en su comunidad.Michelle Davitt - Director of Scottish Love in ActionMichelle has worked in the voluntary sector in Scotland for almost 20 years. She has direct experience in running and managing small charities in a variety of sectors.  For 7 years she was Senior Project Manager at Pilotlight in Scotland, capacity building in teams with senior business people for a range of charities and social enterprises. As well as her role as Chief Executive of international development charity Scottish Love in Action, she also volunteers as Chairperson of the Smart Play Network and is a member of the Advisory Board of FreshSight, a successful social enterprise run by Edinburgh University students. She has worked for Big Issue Invest in Scotland and currently Chief Exec of Scottish Love in Action,  She lives in Edinburgh with her partner and their son.Michelle ha trabajado en el sector voluntario en Escocia por casi 20 años. Ella tiene experiencia en administrar y dirigir pequeñas organizaciones benéficas en una variedad de sectores. Vive en Edimburgo con su pareja y su hijo.Shiela CannellSheila’s career was as a librarian for many years - culminating as Director of Library Services at the University of Edinburgh, where she was particularly involved in the rapid transformation of libraries to digital delivery, and how library buildings could best serve their users in the digital age.  After early retirement, she became involved with Scottish Love in Action, and in particular led SLA in a project to find new NGOs in India to fund.  She has remained involved with these NGOs - VOICE 4 Girls and Rainbow Homes - and has enjoyed annual visits with them, and now works on fundraising initiatives to support them.  She lives - and enjoys life -  in Edinburgh.Sheila fue una bibliotecaria por muchos años, terminando como Directora de Servicios bibliotecarios en la Universidad de Edimburgo, donde estuvo particularmente involucrada en la rápida transformación de las bibliotecas a las entregas virtuales, y cómo las bibliotecas podían mejorar su atención para sus usuarios en la era digital. Después de retirarse temprano, se involucró con Love in Action de Escocia, y especialmente dirigió a SLA en un proyecto para encontrar nuevos ONGs- VOICE 4 Girls y Rainbow Homes - y ha disfrutado visitas anuales con ellos, y ahora trabaja en iniciativas para recoger fondos para ayudarlos. Vive - y disfruta su vida - en Edimburgo.
