THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PARKS & PATHWAYSThe Trails and Open Space Coalition is a 501c3 nonprofit created in 1987. We are committed to preserving open spaces and parks, as well as creating a network of trails, bikeways, and greenways for the Pikes Peak Region. We have a small staff and are governed by a board of directors. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) receives NO government funds of any kind. Most of our support comes from individual contributions and people who care about our parks and trails. A smaller part of our revenue comes from grants and fundraising events.

The Pineries Open Space

Looking forward to seeing our members on Friday, August 14th for an 8:00 a.m. guided bike ride in the Pineries Open Space. Allen Beauchamp of TOSC will be leading a 9 mile very casually-paced tour of the new trail loop.Please reference our event waiver, which can be found <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cVikJf4KmDqKlCPQ-rRpgAYL5C3g34fV/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">HERE</a> By registering for this event, you agree to abide by all of the information contained in the agreement. Staff or a TOSC representative will be going over the waiver details again prior to the hike commencing. Due to Covid precautions, no paper or pens will be used during the check-in process at the Pineries.Please arrive by 7:45am a.m. to allow the bike guide time to check individuals in and cover our waiver prior to departing on the ride. We ask that you follow proper physical distancing protocol and give other members and members of the public at least 6 feet of distance while we are assembling for the ride and plan for adequate spacing once we are moving out onto the trail loop.The trail is a very flowy singletrack in construction and there are no real technical obstacles to navigate, but some of the corners can be tight and care must be taken along the way.Following Covid best practices, masks will be required for wear when we stop and gather as a group (not actively biking). Please plan on keeping the mask with you on the ride.While dog are allowed in county parks as long as they are leashed, we are requesting that you not bring your furry hiking pal because of the length of the ride and the difficulty that would be presented by riding as a member of a group with a pup.The Pineries is El Paso County’s newest open space in Black Forest. The ride is moderate in length but relatively flat with a rolling trail through the forest. Great views of the Palmer Divide, Front Range and Pikes Peak. This ride will take in the full 9 mile loop and there will be plenty of opportunities for micro-breaks and kodak moments along the route. A properly functioning bicycle, a helmet and appropriate footwear for biking off-road is needed for this ride. Sunscreen and a hast are highly recommended as much of the trail has full sun exposure. Bring water in a hydration pack or bottles and snacks as this ride is longer in length. Please have your mask handy for use when we stop or encounter others. It’s a narrow trail and we will be passing other users including equestrians and cyclists along the way.
