SIDEWALK TALK: Global Community Listening Project

We are creating a safe space to practice empathic listening to all people and all feelings using Sidewalk Talk Listening skills.

<h3>Hi Everyone!</h3><h2>Welcome! You belong here.  And if you don&#x27;t feel belonging, speak up, the group will adjust so we all are included.</h2><p>In response to our beautiful conversation at our first meeting....we want to not center white structure, and we want to create enough structure so we center LISTENING and make sure we all get equal time to hear and be heard. After each meeting, the group co-creates the agenda for the next meeting. </p><p></p><h2>Here are the general group agreements we made together thus far among our black, brown, white members:</h2><p></p><h3>Prerequisite of our group:</h3><p>We asked on the Eventbrite all joiners today take the Sidewalk Talk listener training.  The training is $10 on the Sidewalk Talk website here: <a href="https://www.sidewalk-talk.org/become-a-listener " target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.sidewalk-talk.org/become-a-listener </a></p><h3>Purpose of our group:</h3><p>To practice our listening skills across race and racism. To practice co-creating across diverse ideas.  To center stories of color while creating a container where all stories are heard so we can all grow to humanize, advocate, and celebrate one another.To be vulnerable together.To share facilitation and leadership.</p><h3>Co-Created Weekly Format:</h3><ul><li>Member of Group Facilitates </li><li>Member of Group leads a warm-up</li><li>Optional spotlight for members who need to be heard by whole group</li><li>Breakout Reflective listening- 5 minutes per person - with group to reflect for 2 minutes back.</li><li>Large group discussion.</li><li>Optional extra 30 minutes for those who want to stay longer to listen.</li></ul><h3>Technology:</h3><ul><li>MarcoPolo for between session listening on our phone: </li><li>Zoom </li></ul><h3>What our group is not for:</h3><ul><li>This group is not a race education or reconciliation group.  </li><li>This group is not a group that upholds racism. </li><li>This is not an affinity group where only one identity is welcome.</li><li>Nor is it a group striving for perfection.</li></ul><p></p><p> See you soon!</p><p>Traci</p><p>If you have questions email traci@sidewalk-talk.org.</p><p>Looking forward to being in connection.</p><p></p><p></p>
