AAUW Sacramento was organized in 1920 and has over 250 members working towards the same goal of Breaking through Barriers for Women and Girls.Members enjoy working toward a common goal while experiencing intellectual growth and creating a network of friends through branch programs and events.  AAUW Sacramento offers the opportunity to get involved in many philanthropic programs:Local Scholarships that support women attending or returning to collegePublic Policy issues that have a direct impact on women and girlsOutreach including College/University Partner Member Program, Speech Trek, Start Smart, and Tech TrekAmerican Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of more than 150,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 700 college/university institution partners.  Since being founded in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. AAUW Speech Trek Challenge Topic Discussion, over Zoom.

Register and you will be sent the Zoom link 2 days prior to the meeting.At the Speech Trek Challenge, AAUW members will discuss this year’s very timely topic: “Climate change is happening. The effects are widespread and touch upon almost all aspects of our life on this planet. Select an area of impact and explore the effects climate change is having on women in the USA, and around the world.”Discussing the topic in advance of the contest should pique interest in the contest. Groups will discuss the questions: 1) Can you think of any other effects of climate change on women and girls in the USA and the world? 2) How do you think the student contestants will approach the topic? 3) What do you think the solutions could be to these adverse effects?Don’t miss this opportunity to discuss an issue so important to our young people.The 2025 Speech Trek Contest with local high school students will be held on Feb.15, 2025 from 10:30am - 1:00pm. The contest will be held in person at Cosumnes River College.We hope to see you at the Challenge for a lively discussion of this important topic!
