Four Walls Theater was founded as the Covid-19 crisis settled on the United States. Elana Gartner, a playwright, saw the pain of her theater community, having lost so many shows and the pain of her social services community, being overworked and underresourced, and decided to bring them together. Gina Dropp joined Elana in this venture and is now the Director of Marketing and Patron Services. A team began to emerge: Katherine Hintz became our graphic designer and M. Florian Staab became our sound designer. Together, we produce socially responsible online theater.

Timely play on Black Lives Matter  and police brutality

Michelle Tyrene Johnson’s timely play, “Rights of Passage”, directed by Sibyl Rolle, asks the question what happens when a white police officer comes to a law office to seek legal help after killing an unarmed black youth? Controversy and media attention hasn’t yet happened, but for the police officer, explaining what happened is more complicated than he bargained for.LIVE STREAMING! Friday, July 10, 8pm EST/ 5pm PTRECORDED PERFORMANCE ONLY AVAILABLE UNTIL JULY 24THThe spotlight charity for this production is Black Lives Matter whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.This production features 2020 graduates from colleges and MFA programs: Coda Boyce (MI), Henry Gardner (NJ), Mark Mazzarella (MN), Neil Redfield (NY/TX), and Ava Saunders (IL).
