Using Microsoft Copilot with Library Databases: An Introduction

Improve searching with library databases using Microsoft Copilot, a Generative AI tool free to Northwestern students & faculty.

In recent years generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools have increased in availability and popularity at universities, but not everyone knows how to use them for better library search results. In this 60-minute hybrid session we will demonstrate how to use Microsoft Copilot, a free GAI tool for all Northwestern students and faculty, to improve searches with the gold standard of reliable content, library databases. This session is geared toward participants with little-to-no familiarity with generative artificial intelligence, and will also address the basics of what generative artificial intelligence is, how it works, its risks, and limitations. Students can learn about <a href="https://www.it.northwestern.edu/about/news-events/2024/microsoft-copilot-available-university-community.html" title="https://www.it.northwestern.edu/about/news-events/2024/microsoft-copilot-available-university-community.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Northwestern University’s Copilot accounts here</a>.This workshop is hybrid (in person at University Libraries and online over Zoom) and geared toward Northwestern students. A <a href="https://northwestern.zoom.us/" title="https://northwestern.zoom.us/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Northwestern Zoom account</a> is required to access the online session.
