Tregaron Conservancy is a 13-acre historic woodland garden located in the heart of the Cleveland Park and Woodley Park neighborhoods in Northwest DC. The Conservancy parkland is open to the public from dawn to dusk every day, free of charge. Entrances are at 3100 Macomb Street NW and 3031 Klingle Road NW. Give yourself permission to step away, for a time, from the concerns of the world. Join us for an immersive walk along the <a href="https://tregaron.org" title="https://tregaron.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tregaron</a> footpaths in the tradition of Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing, a Japanese wellness practice that helps individuals access the healing properties of nature. Research shows that extended contemplative time in nature calms the mind, promotes well-being, and cultivates a profound sense of belonging. You will be invited to slow down, to be curious, and to touch, smell, hear, and see nature more fully.The experience begins with an orientation to, and expression of gratitude for, the place where we will be spending our time. It includes warm-ups, centering, breathing exercises, a non-strenuous walk, and a brief time sitting. We conclude with a returning ritual, a chance to reflect on the experience and understand how the practice can be used in daily life.Our guide is <a href="https://susanwestmontgomery.com" title="https://susanwestmontgomery.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Susan West Montgomery</a>, a Kripalu Certified Outdoor Mindfulness Guide. She specializes in developing customized excursions at natural, historic, and cultural sites where she can deepen the mindfulness experience by layering in the nature-culture connection.Preparation: Dress in warm layers and be prepared for slow walking on mulched trails and stone steps with some hill climbing. Bring rain/snow gear if showers or light snow is expected.Weather Policy: If we need to cancel due to heavy snow or rain, you will be notified by 9:00 am January 20 and a full refund will be issued. (Tickets will otherwise be non-refundable.)Directions and Other Information: We will meet at the iron gate entrance at 3031 Klingle Road, NW. (Just below the corner of Woodley and Klingle Roads.) Tregaron is a 10-15 minute walk from the Cleveland Park or Woodley Metro stops. Two-hour street parking is available nearby.
