Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality Facilitator Training LEVEL II

For the last decade, Angel Acosta has worked to bridge the fields of leadership, social justice and mindfulness. He recently received his doctorate in the Curriculum and Teaching Department at Teachers College, Columbia University. Angel has supported educational leaders and their students by facilitating leadership trainings, creating pathways to higher education, and designing dynamic learning experiences. His dissertation explores healing-centered education as a promising framework for educational leadership development.After participating in the Mind and Life Institute’s Academy for Contemplative Leadership, he began consulting and developing learning experiences that weave leadership development, conversations about inequality and healing to support educational leaders through contemplative and restorative practices. As a former Trustee for the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society, he participated as a speaker and discussant at the Asia Pacific Forum on Holistic Education in Kyoto, Japan. Angel continues to consult for organizations like the NYC Department of Education, UNICEF, Columbia University and others.He is the CEO and Principal Consultant at Acosta Consulting, where hedesigns and facilitate healing-centered and contemplative-based learning experiences for organizations interested in exploring issues of difference, inequality, racial equity, and well being.

We understand the current moment is impacting us all financially.***Must complete Level I Training This LEVEL II training expands upon several of the concepts explored in Level I. With a particular focus on deepening the ability to hold space for difficult conversations in relation to structural inequality, participants will get hands on opportunities to engage in interactive dialogue to explore the legacy of 400-plus years of inequality. Drawing on the power of the 400 Years of Inequality, participants will develop a deeper awareness of the historical forces that have created what scholars call an “ecology of inequality.”   Through short lectures and contemplative practices, participants will learn how to leverage contemplative science and prosociality. This is a great opportunity to take what you learned in Level I and fine-tune your facilitation skills for working with the timeline itself but, more broadly, cultivating the presence to hold space for others in exploring some of the contentious issues of our times. This training continues to support participants with developing the skills and presence to facilitate the Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality Experience. Inspired by the 400 Years of Inequality project and its powerful timeline, this training underscores research and practices at the intersection of mindfulness, intergenerational trauma &amp; healing, and contemplative education. Through building community with others from across a variety of fields, this is an opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues as well. Fundamentally, this training harnesses the power of the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to U.S. in 1619.
